Origin
Yoga is an ancient spiritual practice that originated in India. In the late 20th century, archaeologists have revealed artifacts with the image of yogic meditators. They have first appeared in the river valley civilization of northwest India, which has about 6,000 to 7,000 years of history.
When practicing in nature, practitioners in the history of India come across animals and plants that are more resilient than humans and even have a natural ability to relax and heal themselves. So the yogis began to learn from the forms of the world to exercise. They pray to understand the wisdom of nature’s life, to obtain self-healing methods, thus creating a series of good physical and mental health of the ancient yoga postures.
Development
In 2000 BC, the records of Yoga appeared in the earliest classical “Vedas” in India, and it was inferred from the documents that the initial form of Yoga was asceticism. In 800 BC, the word “YOGA” in “Taittiriya Upanishad” first appeared as a practice method, and philosophical reasoning became the primary method of Yoga practice.
From the 3rd to the 5th century AD, the progressive development of Indian Yoga was transformed from a single pattern into a complete philosophical system. Patanjali systematized the knowledge and practice of Yoga into “Yoga Sutra”, which proposed the eight branches of Yoga and marked the formation of the Yoga system. With the body as the core and the emancipation through practice, Yoga has developed into many schools. Indian Yoga began to spread around the world.
Spread
From the 19th century to the present, Yoga has become the worldwide spread of physical and mental practice.
